You are starting your own Internet business? Be ready to start a lawsuit. Or be sued by your former best friends and partners. Think of the ample examples from the “Internet Eldorado”: Recall how often you read this kind of appeals of distressed dreamers:
If your business partner stole all the out of the business account & I have proof. Can I press charges on him to get my money faster. Called my lawyer to ask him / just waiting for a return call it might take a day or two. He was my best friend !
Your mother told you it’s important to have the right friends. But it’s equally important to have the right enemies. Pick your enemies (your business partners) as carefully as your friends. Remember: in our dynamic world of Internet business they switch places so fast!
So, should I open my company alone, or is there a way to avoid making mistake in choosing a partner?
In the business world (especially the “New World” of Internet), a business man without any enemies is likely to be a coward and a looser. A businessman with the right enemies is often a one who stood up for his case and won. We are working in an adversarial system. If everybody likes you, you are not creating anything valuable. You are not being tough enough. You are not risking. You are not aiming high. You are putting your friendship with your partners (potential hidden or budding rivals) above your business interests. You’re sucking up!
You sound too grave! Should I be upfront offensive with my partners? Isn’t it better to use your friendship for the benefits of a common cause?
It doesn’t mean you should be gratuitously offensive. Yes, it is often better to use friendship than enmity in your business, But enmity is sometimes inevitable in an adversarial world of Internet business. So know the difference between who you want to like you and who you choose to hate you.
